How do you choose a credit repair agency — meaning, discern the truly helpful ones from the scam ones out there?

Have you considered attempting credit repair on your own? If you hire someone, the fees charged could be quite high, normally thousands. If you had a dispute playbook, would you try it on your own?

Self Credit Repair:

You may think it is daunting. But, it is not. You will need to be diligent.

  1. Step 1: Take notes of all conversations. Be sure to include the name and phone of the company you called, the name of the person(s) for each conversation (get their extension or direct line if they have one), the date and time of the conversation. You may need to use your notes as a reference at a later date. For this reason, keep good notes.
  2. Step 2: If you know the rules, the process is easier. Do you want to know the rules? Watch my 3 short videos (total view time is approx 15 minutes). Click here for the first video.
  3. Step 3: (These instructions are in step 2) Grab my form letter. Edit my form letter with your name, address. Edit the creditor info (company address). Mail the letter to the credit bureaus (along with the page of the credit report showing the creditor in dispute). Set a 30 day reminder on your smart phone. Did you get a response from the creditor? If your answer is no, the credit bureau must remove over the next 30 days. So, the time to completion would be 60 days.
